Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen of the best days of my life. This list is by no means all inclusive they are just what happen to be coming to mind.

1. My wedding day. 14 years ago this coming Monday. Our wedding wasn't much, just my family, my best friend, and my husband's best friend. We went to the court house. Got married on the court house lawn. I have not been bored in all this time. He is and always will be my friend.

2. The day my neice, Katie, was born. She has owned my heart from the first moment I saw her. My sister had a c-section and had this irrational fear that someone would switch her with another baby. I stood my the nursery window and watched her from the time my brother in law brought her in until they brought her to my sister. She spent the first night of her life sleeping on my chest.

3. The day I graduated from nursing school. My program was tough. I knew if I made it through I would be a good nurse.

4. The day I saw my brother holding his newborn son. My brother is 6'2" 280 pounds. He held that 5 pound 2 ounce baby and tickled his belly saying "Zack attack, Zack attack." Which we still say while tickling the now 2 year old.

5. My first day of college. 24000 other undergrads should be overwhelming, but it wasn't.

6. My birthday 2 years ago. We went on a cruise which was, for the most part, my gift. But when we opened the cabin door, my husband had gotten them to decorate the room. It said "Congratulations" not "Happy Birthday." But it is the thought that counts after all. (They messed up, not hubby.)

7. The first time my Dad asked me for medical advice. You mean, I might be a grown up professional whose opinion matters.

8. The day my husband entered my Mom in a Mother's Day contest and his letter won. He said that she has always made him feel like he was part of her family. Just another one of her children for better or worse.

9. The day my dog was born. She will be eight this year. She is my smoochie baby. Isn't she a pretty baby? She is sleeping in my lap right now.

10. The day one of the doctor's asked me where I used to work. I had just graduated from nursing school. He thought I had been a nurse for years.

11. The day I bought my childhood best friend's first print book. Deanna, here to you. My hats off to you. For anyone who hasn't read Undressing Mercy by Deanna Lee. I encourage you to go get it. This shameless plug is totally unsolicitated. She got me off my butt and writing again. For that alone, I will always thank her.

12. The day my husband surprised me with front row tickets to Tim McGraw. I was close enough to touch him. I did get to grab the butt of Big Kenny from Big & Rich and Cowboy Troy is fine.

13. Father's Day 3 years ago. My Dad had a fairly expensive grill on layaway. He had only paid the minimum. I went down and payed it off except for one dollar. I finally had the money to do something like that for my family who have never asked for anything from me, even though I have the money to spare and they don't.

OK, I am hoping I can add being published myself and having a baby to this list. I wonder how adoption agencies will view romance author on the application. Might need to downplay that aspect of my life.

Freaky Friday

Ok I am going to add a Freaky Friday post. Gives me something to blog, cuz I don't talk about myself. So here goes. I have decided to comb the internet for the weirdest thing I can find. Actually, I'm not sure I can ever top this first one, but I will give it my best.
There is very little that makes me scratch my head and wonder WTF. This certainly did that.
Here is a link to one of the strangest sex toys I have ever seen.

Thursday Thirteen

As most of you might know, we had a house fire in May. Since then we have been staying with my husband's sister and her husband. It has been.... Let's just say that I am overjoyed to have signed a lease yesterday. So in honor of that here is thirteen reasons it is good to have your own place.

1. I get to walk around in my underwear or less.

2. No waiting for the bathroom.

3. If my laundry gets all wrinkled, it is my fault.

4. My dog getting blamed for their dog peeing in the floor.

5. I can sit on the patio and work without my husband calling me antisocial.

6. I can stay up til 3 in the morning working if the inspiration strikes.

7. I can get my books out of storage!!!!!

8. I can buy groceries and no one else will eat them.

9. I can cook healthy stuff. (They don't eat veggies, onions, or herbs. The contents of the spice rack are: salt, pepper, and seasoned salt. We added dill and parsley because my SIL loves my dill dip.)

10. I get to buy new furniture.

11. I won't have to freeze to death every morning (I think the thermostat is on 55.)

12. I don't have to keep it down, because no one is sleeping 10 feet away.

13. Four adults, two dogs, and a ferret in a two bedroom, one bath house, enough said.
